The Storybook Project
What is it?
The Storybook Project is a personalized story that will help mothers talk with their children about a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Every woman has a unique breast cancer journey from the type of cancer to the treatment plan. The Storybook is developmentally appropriate and designed to capture that journey in a way that children can understand. The book has fill-in-the-blank options and removable/adjustable chapters that can be customized for each child and cancer treatment plan, ultimately creating a personalized book that children can connect with and call their own.
How did it start?
When Brook and Chelsea were diagnosed with cancer, they were both mothers with young children at the time of diagnosis. After not finding the right resources to discuss their cancer diagnosis with their children, they individually created their own stories to help their children understand and cope with the cancer diagnosis and treatment plan. It wasn't until a few years later, at a chance meeting at a conference for young survivors, that they shared their story with each other and the spark for the Storybook Project was ignited...creating a personalized story that will help guide mothers and their children through breast cancer treatment.
