The Legacy

In 2013, young breast cancer survivors Chelsea Harper and Brook Irwin co-authored  The Storybook Project, an innovative, personalized book designed to help “mamas talk to their kiddos about breast cancer.”  They raised over $19,000 in the initial grassroots effort to print, assemble, and distribute a limited edition of their book to families across the United States. Their hope was that this book would be available to many other mamas coping with the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The Storybook Project, illustrated by Penny Hood, represents their enduring love for their own children and other children affected by breast cancer.

The Future

Although Brook and Chelsea are no longer with us and their families, we are continuing their work! Generous donations supported the second run of The Storybook Project and the book is now widely available by low-cost Print-On-Demand—delivering this resource to the organizations and families who need it. We are grateful for your support.

"The StoryBook project book helped our family to cope with Chelsea’s breast cancer diagnosis, with several years of treatment and living with cancer, and ultimately with her death. It gave us all (adults and children) a way to talk about cancer together. And it was a way for Chelsea to share her love as a mother. It is so important to get this resource into the hands of other parents and children coping with breast cancer.”

— Thomas Doherty, spouse of Chelsea Harper and father to Eva, aged 11
